CASE STUDY - MATAKANA ESTATE NZ

Bespoke luxury business 6-Day immersion: brand concept, positioning, and interactive strategy experience in London and Milan. Her chosen focus was Fashion Art and Interiors.

Owner Chrissy Lu reached out to us in 2023. As the owner of one of the largest vineyard estates in Matakana, Auckland, NZ, she was driven to elevate the business and brand, harnessing its incredible location and outstanding landscape. She needed expertise to develop a new brand concept aligned with her values and beliefs. Her bold vision for the new business would expand beyond a vineyard and cellar door to a holistic brand experience encompassing wine, food, art, retail, and experiences.

She knew she wanted a look and feel that was international, differentiated and unique. As she wanted to travel to Europe, she asked me to put together a bespoke business strategy experience that covered the strategy piece and also included seeing and understanding how other brands and businesses succeed in the UK and Europe.

6-Day Interactive Strategy Experience focused on Fashion Art and Interiors

Over three days in London, highlights of the trip:

Three days in London began with a tour of London’s fashion stores, from independent concept stores to major department stores. We then toured the art scene of London, from big international galleries to smaller niche dealers, and we arranged a meeting with an experienced London gallerist and limited edition expert to answer her questions on pricing and margins, commercial curation and how galleries become known for a “look and feel”. We then held an interactive office-based workshop to apply real-time insights into brand, brand positioning, experience, and pricing strategy.

Over three days in Milan, highlights of the trip: 

Three days in Milan were organised to coincide with Salone del Mobile Milan and began with a day visiting the trade fair just outside the city. My client gained inspiration from meeting furniture and interior brands and manufacturers directly. The second day included a trip to Como for a guided tour of one of the world’s most prestigious silk printers, which produces for Dior and Chanel, followed by lunch on the lake at Villa d’Este and then an evening event hosted by La DoubleJ. The third day was a tour of Milan’s diverse brand hotels and luxury retail experiences, showcasing how brands articulate their unique brand image and creative vision. In the evening, we attended an exclusive communal dining event at a pop-up in an impressive industrial warehouse.

CASE STUDY - HOUSE OF COLOUR

Fashion industry immersion: couture atelier visit and luxury brand insight (London)

Ally Van Iten, CEO of House of Colour USA, was the top-performing USA Franchise owner before she stepped into her new leadership role. Over the years, as she met with the UK team in London, she was intrigued to learn about British fashion, the growth of premium brands in the EU, and the differences between the EU/UK and US fashion industries. Over several trips, we crafted key experiences focused on the arc of UK high street retail, from mid-market independents to designer and luxury brands and couture. The most recent was a private tour of the atelier and an interview with Stewart Parvin MVO, couturier to the late Queen Elizabeth II, attended by both the Director of Sales, Emma, and Ally, the CEO USA.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Our experiences are designed for founders and businesses ready to accelerate insights, inspiration, creative strategy, and elevate their existing business. Ideal clients are established businesses or entrepreneurs with secured funding who seek to refine their brand vision, understand their market and competitors, and differentiate their business with confidence and clarity.

To begin, clients are required to participate in a 90-minute Discovery Strategy session at £395 plus VAT. This fee is non-refundable if attended, but will be fully credited toward the cost of your booked immersion. The session allows us to understand your business, objectives, and challenges — and, crucially, to determine whether this bespoke experience is the right fit. Once your tailored itinerary proposal is approved, a 50% deposit is required to confirm the booking.

You will be personally guided by Joanne Yulan Jong, an expert in creative strategy with decades of experience in fashion, brand development, and luxury business consultancy. Joanne is fluent in Italian.

Many experiences are crafted around major international trade fairs, including Premiere Vision (Paris), Salone del Mobile (Milan), or niche events such as London Craft Week.

Clients are responsible for their own travel and accommodation, including transport to and from the start point. We provide a full breakdown of all anticipated expenses, including taxis, transfers, food, meeting rooms, event entry fees, and sundries, so there are no surprises.

On request, we facilitate personal introductions to experts and partners who provide insights otherwise inaccessible. Please note: While introductions are made personally, these do not guarantee future collaboration, as partners operate independently under their own terms. Business matches are available exclusively to clients engaging our consultancy services.
